New Strategic Focus and Team Member

Dear Songs for Saplings friends,

We’re excited to introduce to you a new member of the Songs for Saplings team, Adam Smith. Adam will be serving as General Manager.

Adam’s arrival reflects an intentional effort by Songs for Saplings to pivot our focus towards strategic international projects and partnerships. It also reflects our strategic prioritization of Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and Swahili translations.

This is a big and exciting new step in strategically growing our organization’s capacity.   Adam has been a friend and enthusiastic advocate of Songs for Saplings for over 5 years now. We first met him when he was leading the team developing strategies and tools for international children’s ministry at Operation Christmas Child (OCC). During that time, OCC made our Questions with Answers material part of its international program, and sponsored the beginning of our Spanish translations with a generous grant.

Since then, Adam continued to work with us on a volunteer basis—helping us reach new partners and begin our work on new strategic language translations.

We are thrilled to have Adam on board. He comes to us with deep experience developing, launching and managing international programs and partnerships. These include international theological initiatives, children’s programs and projects providing resources for local churches. Adam also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster California.

“Having visited and partnered with churches and ministries across the world and traveling to dozens of countries,” Adam told us, “I have witnessed and lamented the widespread need and desire for trustworthy biblical and theological resources like this.”

While advocating for Songs for Saplings over the years, Adam has watched many people fall in love with the music and has received many requests to help make Songs for Saplings materials available in other countries. He is persuaded that Songs for Saplings music resources will be incredibly useful to and treasured by local churches around the world.

“It is clear that Songs for Saplings truly has something wonderful and critically-needed to offer to the global Church. It’s rich theology and content are needed and desired everywhere, especially in developing countries where there are fewer biblically-sound resources in local languages.

In our own family we have personally experienced how this music makes biblical truths more memorable, expressive, and available in bite-sized pieces. The format of music makes them enjoyable and easily shareable. They are perfect for enabling the sharing the Gospel and enhancing our understanding of the whole of the Scriptures. I have also enjoyed seeing how these Scripturally-based songs have a wonderful ability to transcend denominational boundaries. All these elements come together so that Songs for Saplings resources are uniquely situated to and enormously valuable for equipping our churches, minds and ministries.”

We’re very excited and feel honored to have the Smiths working with us. We encourage you to introduce yourself to Adam by sending him an email at so that he can begin getting to know you as well. His scope of activities will also include general management and communications for Songs for Saplings as an organization. The Smith family recently relocated to Portland in order join the Songs for Saplings team.

Thank you all again for your generous prayers and support! Please consider supporting Adam’s work with Songs for Saplings. Songs for Saplings is a registered 501(c)3 ministry, and we make our music available for free in most cases. Your support allows our team to focus on our strategic translations over the next 4 years. Please join us in supporting him!

Your friends,

James and Dana Dirksen
